Israfel 1
"If I could dwell
Where Israfel
Hath dwelt, and he where I,
He might not sing so wildly well
A mortal melody,
While a bolder note than this might swell
From my lyre within the sky."

'Israfel' - Edgar Allen Poe
An all to rare foray into sculpture, I tried to depict Israfel's failure in being able to sing having known a mortal life.

Sketchbook Work 07-08
Ivor Cutler was a subject of a short illustration project over summer, I focused on illustrating two of his poems/songs, 'Baby Sits' and 'Old Oak Tree'.
'Baby Sits' is a song about a child who is neglected by his/her parents, it is a classic Cutler song and is both bizarre and moving.I was particularly interested in the way Ivor's songs were on the face jolly and comedic but hid a dark meaning behind the jokes.
Throughout the year i was also interested a lot in sleep, in dreams and the protection we can feel while under the covers.
Below are some other various ideas and illustrations from last year.
